And..... The Best Jacksonville 48 Hour Film for 2007
"Easter Bunny Super Hero" Easter Bunny Super Hero will go on to represent Jacksonville in the National 48 Hour Film Project Competition this Fall. Please join me in congratulating Danny, and the entire team from Psycho Film Binge and wish them great success at the national competition. I would also like all of you to congratulate all of our teams that participated this year. The films were all very good and the competition was very, very close. There were only 7 audience votes separating the winner of group A's award and the second place team, likewise there was only another 9 votes separating the third place team from the second place team. For screening group B it was even closer, only two votes separated the winning team from the team with the second most votes and only 7 votes separated the third place team from them. In all Six teams were within a total of only 24 votes of each other for Audience Choice Awards. I think that speaks volumes for the quality of the films submitted this year. Additionally, The remaining seven films that made up the 13 Best Of Jacksonville screening were all within single digit votes of each other. Every one of the 13 teams in the Best of Jacksonville screening can walk the streets of Jacksonville with their heads held high and proud. They truly were great films and the over 900 people who attended the screenings agree. I have said this several times and want to say it one more time. All of the people who participated in this, our very first year have contributed to it being a huge success and have ensured it's continuation next year. In fact I am confident that we will have as many as 48 teams competing with 4 premiere screenings on two nights and a weekend of Best Of Jacksonville Screenings.
The Jacksonville 48 Hour Film Project was held for the first time in Jacksonville, Florida during the Weekend of August 3rd through August 5th. This event is being produced by Co-Producers Nick Serenati and Mac McDonald, along with Associate Producer Amy Copeland. You can contact the Jacksonville 48 Hour Production staff by emailing jacksonville@48hourfilm.com. Also stop by our MySpace page at www.myspace.com/jax48hourfilmproject.
The 48 Hour Film Project is a filmmaking competition that started in Washington DC in 2001. Since then it has grown to competitions in over 50 U.S. cities and a half dozen international sites. During the years hundreds of teams with thousands of participants have competed for the coveted title of "Best 48 Hour Film". This year a team competing in the Jacksonville 48 Hour Film Project will receive the title "Best Jacksonville 48 Hour Film" and go on to compete with almost 60 other teams for the title of "Best 48 Hour Film 2007". Among the prizes and recognition that come with that title is the potential for that film to appear at major film festivals like the Cannes Film Festival. The concept is simple, on Friday, August 3rd, teams from all over Florida and the region will gather at the "Kick Off" party where they will learn the elements that have to be included in all films: a line of dialog, a prop, and a character. Additionally there will be a surprise element for the Jacksonville event and each team will also draw a genre that their film has to be made in from a hat. At 7:00pm the clock starts and so does the CHAOS! Each team will have only 48 hours to write, produce, shoot, edit and score their 4 to 7 minute short film. All films must be "Dropped Off" by 7:30pm on Sunday, August 5th to be eligible for judging and prizes. Films dropped of late, 7:31pm is late, will still be shown at our screenings but will not be eligible for judging or prizes. We will screen our films on Tuesday, August 7th, in front of a sold out audience in a full size theater where professional film and video judges will determine the "Best Jacksonville 48 Hour Film". There will be other categories of judging and prizes and an "Audience Favorite Award" voted on by the audience at the screening.
